Onboarding
New to the Galloway lab? Start here!
Before your first day in lab, you can get started setting up important software. See Day 0: Software and training setup and Software Tips and Tricks in particular. Once you’ve installed everything, you may also wish to learn (or refresh your memory) on Git and terminals, and test your knowledge by confirming that you can set up a computational environment. If this is confusing, don’t worry! We can help you do these steps when you arrive in person.
On your first day, follow the instructions at Day 1: First day in lab. Ask a lab member to help you complete the onboarding form and show you around the lab. Connect with the current EHS rep to schedule your lab-specific safety training (required before you start lab work).
As you get settled in lab, you may want to peruse this protocol site and the lab SharePoint. There’s a lot of interesting info there!
For instance, at Day 2+: Content-specific trainings, you’ll find written resources from past trainings on a variety of
lab techniques. Elsewhere on this site, you’ll find detailed protocols for performing them in lab. Tip: If you ever need help doing something,
search the protocols page—there might be instructions already written up (e.g., for ordering, using the Keyence,
culturing iPSCs, adding to this site, and more)! On the SharePoint, you’ll find
recent presentations in the Group_Meeting folder, and you can create a folder for your project (for plasmids, experiment calculations,
graphics, etc.) in the projects folder.
Feel free to ask your new labmates questions—we’re all happy to help you get started. :)
